Sony is working on PS4 Remote Play for PC and Mac

first_imgIf you own an Xbox One then you can already enjoy streaming your games to a PC over your local network. The only pre-requisite being that your PC is running Windows 10. However, Sony has confirmed that the same Remote Play feature is coming for PS4 games, and there’s going to be fewer restrictions.News of the Remote Play feature was, let’s say, encouraged out of Sony by the appearance of an unofficial app that allowed PS4 games to be streamed to a PC. Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony’s Worldwide Studios, was quick to respond via Twitter confirming official support is in the works. Not only that, but the app will work for both PC and Mac owners.Sony already allows PS4 game streaming, but only to its other devices including the PS Vita and PlayStation TV. Extending this to PC and Mac should therefore be quite a swift process as most of the functionality will already be in place. However, just like with the existing streaming to the PlayStation TV, the best experience will be if you stream through a wired network. Trying to stream over WiFi is hit and miss and can render games unplayable.Another area Sony will have to work on when the PS4 Remote Play app appears for PC/Mac is controller support. The DualShock 4 needs to work perfectly when plugged into a USB port on your computer. In return for sorting that out, Sony could see sales of extra controllers increase dramatically. There’s one final area where Sony could one-up Microsoft, and that’s in OS support. As well as supporting Mac, there’s no reason Sony can’t support Windows 7 and Windows 8 as well as Windows 10, right?last_img
